What is the JCFRA?
Our association aims to enhance the effectiveness and coordination among fire and rescue companies in Jefferson County, WV. We strive to standardize equipment and foster mutual aid between these companies, promoting their general welfare and encouraging positive relations with the Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency and the public. Through our efforts, we seek to maximize the utility and effectiveness of fire and rescue services for the benefit of the community.

Volunteer
Fire Protection in Jefferson County is 100% Volunteer Corporation Managed. Through a partnership with the JCESA, career personnel are authorized to operate as Firefighters in Jefferson County, and still the bulk of the workload is conducted by volunteer workforce.

The minimum service cost for operating fire protection in Jefferson County is $3.5MILLION. This cost burden is shared by the 7 volunteer fire corporations in Jefferson County. If Jefferson County wanted a all-career, or even mostly career system, taxpayers would be looking at >$28M burden.
Emergency Calls
Jefferson County 9-1-1 Center processes approximately 6,000 non-law enforcement calls for service annually. These calls are a mixture of EMS (mostly), Fire, and Public Service. Your Jefferson County Volunteers respond on a huge percentage of these emergency calls, in addition to conducting training, fundraising, and working full time jobs.
